Now Accepting Applications: Shipshewana Police Reserve Program

The Shipshewana Police Department is currently accepting applications for dedicated individuals interested in joining our Police Reserve Program. This volunteer opportunity is a great way to give back to the community while gaining valuable insight into the field of law enforcement. Whether you are considering a future career in policing or simply want to serve and protect your hometown, the Reserve Program offers meaningful experience and professional growth.

Applicants must be U. S. Citizens, at least 21 years of age, must possess a high school diploma or GED, must have a valid driver’s license. Applicants must be a person of excellent character having favorable references from previous employers and personal references, with no pattern or practice of substance abuse or criminal misdemeanor convictions, and no history of felony convictions. Reserve officers are required to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours per month. Duties include assisting full-time officers with patrol duties, special events, and various community functions. All the necessary training and equipment will be provided by the police department, and each reserve officer will receive an annual clothing allowance to help maintain a professional appearance.
