Chad Miller, Fire Chief
Shipshewana Fire Department

The Shipshewana Fire Department has recently with financial assistance from Newbury Township purchased the necessary equipment and trained six Firefighters to instruct CPR/AED operations for the public.  We are hoping to be able to provide public classes soon which will certify people in CPR and AED use through American Heart Association.

We will be letting everyone know when this service will be offered to the community.

Looking ahead we are also in the planning process for three community events in 2021.  April 10th we are planning to have a fish fry held at the MEC center, July 30th and 31st Summer Festival at the COVE, and a Ham and Bean supper sometime in October held at the Shipshewana Auction Miscellaneous Barn.  All these events had to be cancelled in 2020 but we are optimistic that in 2021 we will be able to make all of them work out.

The tanker truck that was to be delivered in February has been delayed until June.  The manufacturer had a large number of employees that fell ill to COVID19 and production of all Fire Apparatus had to be halted for a period of time.  We excited to be receiving this 4,000 gallon tanker soon and get it into service for our community.  The department is also happy to announce that Newbury Township has offered to purchase a second new 4,000 gallon tanker which will hopefully be here in Shipshewana January of 2022.
